20. HP. STARTER BENDIX GEAR FAILURES.
-----------------------------------

With reference to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/2/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 22. 12. 23, and EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}10/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 28.12.23, we understand that the Works are giving careful attention to the correct mounting of cork on the Disc Piece D.50892.

The Experimental Dept. have been carrying out a number of experiments in which we do away with the type of driving projections on the present sheet steel disc, and replace them with more substantial ones. In addition, we are trying out Friction Disc made of materials other than cork, and when the Experimental Dept. have completed their tests, we hope to be able to avoid the above troubles.

In reply to the last paragraph of EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 22.12.23, modified Nuts D.51060 with left hand screw threads are commencing on the 760th progressive chassis, and we do not consider that any retrospective action should be taken.
