Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. Steadman.

Over the week-end we have tested a .005" and a .007" bellows assembly in a pressure chamber at 40 lbs/sq.in. and find that no movement takes place in either case.

In the circumstances it looks as though the initial assemblies were wrong with regard to free length, for which we are very sorry.

We are, therefore, sending you the two units which you have returned to us, rebuilt with .005" bellows having the correct free length when discharged, and shall be obliged if you will run these for say 500 miles, discharge them, and check whether any change in bellows length has taken place.

At the moment when discharged the upper bellows plate just touches the face of the by-pass seating when there is no joint between the three hole flange which carries the lower end of the bellows and the body.

We may say that the temperature tests with the .007" bellows were not satisfactory as the differential between open and full open was increased by approximately 10°C.

Yours truly,
THE BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO. LTD.

W. Martin-Hurst.
Director.
