COIL No.3855 EX CHASSIS GF.23.(BILLSON)

This coil was first placed on the 205 V
(AC) mains and the milliamperes taken by the secondary
winding noted :- 17 (Production limit 15.6)

The coil was next placed on the rig and given
a short run.

It was noticed that at first there was no
H.T. discharge but almost immediately after, it started
to spark and continued to spark satisfactorily for a
considerable time. On putting the coil through the
production test it was found to differ from our specification
in the following respects:-

1. Running current 1.07 amperes.
2. Primary volts 1.59
amps. 1.61

From these observations it is considered that
the coil is intermittently subjected to a short-circuit on
one of the windings. As the coil, although given a 15 mins.
open circuit, will not break down, further observations
necessary to determine if possible which winding was
affected could not be carried out.

It is recommended that the coil be carefully
unwound to ascertain this.
