To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8050 E1/M7.6.26. RE. PHANTOM ALUMINIUM CYLINDER BLOCK. X.8050 X.2917 On reading your weekly report which mentions the position of the various parts of the lighter Phantom, Mr. Royce came to the conclusion that he did not like the idea of testing the alum. cylinder block with 1/8" liner. We would therefore like you to increase the height by .5" as shewn on the attached drawing LeC.2250., which we have made for the sake of recording the dimensions. The increased height of the side wall should be put into the water doors so that these parts will be .5" wider. The induction pipe uptake should be altered to suit. This may have been left as shewn on LeC.2229., but as we are now proposing to standardise the alum. cyl. block and head on the existing crankchamber, the height of the carb. should be brought into line with the present standard position, if not already done.
