Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/EHG/L8713. (4) 8/7/13. Springs. X.433 file The only thing we had wear on these cars was end play in the front spring shackles, we had to fit washers .030" to .070" thick to take it up. When there is any end play in the springs it causes a most objectionable knock and rattle when going over bumpy roads. The cars had been driven through some vile weather and had got covered in mud. Another point, after a little wear had taken place in the bushes the eye of the spring was rubbing on bridge piece across the shackle. I certainly agree with Mr Platford that continental cars should have 100 lb stronger springs, apart from the bad roads and high speeds maintained it is very seldom one meets a car on the road unless it has the max. load up, as a rule in an open car there are six or seven passengers carried. | ||
