RECEIVED AUG 1930 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [struck through] D.A. [struck through] X7230 BY9/G/22.8.30. P.11. RE RIBBED EXHAUST BOXES. In view of R3/M20.8.30. we consider that our first attempt should be to produce the parts in cast iron. Semi steel and malleable are propositions which we have not much experience with except that the latter is very apt to warp, whilst the former is apt to contain hard spots where the steel is not thoroughly diffused throughout the body of the metal. We rather looked upon it that its weight was prohibitive for cast iron, but as R.{Sir Henry Royce} suggests it we will now go ahead. BM | ||
