To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} 829 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}9/MH.{M. Huckerby}14.7.38. 1.B.50. We want temporarily to fit the dynamometer gearbox into this car in order to see whether we can get the same results twice running. The dynamometer box has been sent into the shop and requires the following modifications:- (1) Reverse bush to be white-metalled and given .0035 clearance. (2) All the synchromesh springs and balls to be omitted. (3) .020 diameter to be removed from the tops and bottoms of the making teeth of both second and overdrive. (4) A further .025 to be removed from the teeth on both second and overdrive. (5) Top gear selector plunger spring should give 8 to 9 lbs. at lever. The second speed one to be the original type and the reverse one the stronger type. As soon as these modifications have been done the car will be sent into the shop for the change-over.
