828 To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}7.7.38. BENTLEY 50 GEARBOX. Confirming our conversation with you we want to try a stiffer reverse shaft which we could do provided you can white-metal the reverse gear direct. We should like the shaft diameter to be exactly one inch, and the shaft made in S/ZNCR. The gear can be bored out to 1.040, white-metalled 25 thou. thick and then reamed to give 3½ thou. clearance.
