from which an improved result is expected. This requires testing.

Summarising the aforegoing, the following is the list of points, some of which are already instructed, which it is intended to apply to the 4 1/4 litre Bentley production.

(1) Large oil pump, which is already instructed.
(2) RR.56 shims -do-
(3) RR.56 big-end bushes.
(4) Modified crankshaft bearing lubrication.
(5) Die cast Hall's metal mains if found to be an improvement.
(6) Filter scheme for crankshaft oil.

With regard to retrospective action, it is proposed to recommend that items (1) (2) and (3) be applied as soon as supplies of parts are available, and items (1) and (2) to be carried out immediately where cars are receiving attention.

It is not recommended that we drop Hall's light metal bearings as a policy because we have only just found a suitable eliminating test representative of the worst operational conditions.

In this connection it is proposed to run an A.C.1 alloy with a Hykro crankshaft as a further development.

With regard to the oil cooler scheme, E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will revise the one that was made last year and bring it uptodate if, and where required, with a view to this scheme being incorporated in the next 10,000 miles Bentley.

Design will also see if an oil cooler can be incorporated.

The scheme for increasing the area of the crankshaft bearings on the 25/30 and Bentley should be issued today, and BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will take steps to see if the crankshaft can be made out the existing forgings, with a view to determining the earlies
