To CJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 48980 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG5.10.25. OVER-OILING. 48980 We are in touch with EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, Test Dept, and Repair Dept. on the over-oiling complaint on the Phantom cars. We saw 11-RC{R. Childs} when it arrived at Derby and followed through the tests which were made on it. It was not considered that 11-RC{R. Childs} was a sufficiently bad case of over-oiling to investigate. The oil supply to the inlet valves was stopped off which reduced the amount of oil, under certain conditions, getting into the cylinders. The car has since been returned to Sales. We do not wish to belittle the over-oiling complaint because we know it exists and we have also carried out sufficient investigations to know the difficulty of entirely over-coming it.
