| To Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} (FOR DEPOT SHEET). 4224 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.5/KW.4.6.35. Bentley Fan Failures. In connection with the failures which have occurred on Bentley Fans, we have established that the basic cause of failure is lack of balance of the complete fan. We should therefore like you to issue a Depot Sheet instructing that all Bentley fans should be checked for this fault when the cars come in for other work. This should be done as follows; i.e., by mounting the fan hub with blades and ball races complete on an arbor to HB.{C. E. Harcombe}6702, and rolling it on knife edges to determine whether it is in balance. Correction of any out of balance is done as follows :- (1) By removing metal from the leading edges of the heavy blades, up to .100" may be removed. (2) If this is insufficient, by removing metal from tips of heavy blades. Up to .050" may be removed. We attach a print of the required arbor, HB.{C. E. Harcombe}6702. NOTE: Blades should be built up in same relative position to hub as that in which they were balanced. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/C.S.Steadman. | ||
