copy The S.U. Company Ltd., East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM, 9. 15th September, 1936. W.A. Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Mr. Robotham, With reference to the use of the G.3 diaphragms with alchohol fuel, I told Mr. Hancock when he was here that we have not run across a case where this fuel has effected the diaphragms, but we have to-day had a letter from our Service man in London copy of which I attach. You will notice that he has been using one of these diaphragms on his own car for twelve months with Discol without any effects, and I am hoping, like he is, that the one he has returned is an isolated case. As you are probably aware, we are sending a pump for Mr. Hancox to test on the Bentley in France, with G.3 diaphragms fitted, and in view of this report I should particularly like Mr. Hancox to give us his report as to the behaviour of these diaphragms with the use of alhohol fuel in France, and if possible return the pump to us for inspection after he has completed his test, as we should like to ascertain if the diaphragm will stand the same pressure as when sent out. So far as our experience goes, this is the only material which stands up to Alcohol fuel in Germany. The pumps are made over there under licence, and during the last two years we have not heard of it causing any trouble. As you probably know, the German fuels are pretty awful. Yours sincerely, R. {Sir Henry Royce} Skinner. | ||
