GANDY'S "SAFEGUARD" BRAKE LINING - CONTINUED ..2. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., 6th May, 1938. and we hope that if the final curves prove to be satisfactory, you will follow up your laboratory tests by road tests on your cars. The fact that the inclusion of graphite has proved beneficial in this last sample, opens up a new field for experiment with the Woven type lining, and as our equipment is at present designed for handling Woven materials, we would like to supply you with this type of lining, providing we can secure the desired frictional characteristics. We propose to carry out a few experiments along the lines of incorporating special proofings onto the graphited fabric used in the "400" G.M.3., for example, we feel sure that the impregnation of this fabric with the bonding material used in our type "E" sample, which also shows desirable curves, will lead to the production of a perfectly satisfactory lining from the non-squeaking point of view. We have about four modifications in mind along these lines, and we should be glad if you could test these, when we have prepared the necessary samples, as it will be some considerable time before our own machine is completed. Should it happen that working along the above lines a product fully satisfactory to yourselves is not developed, we have secured the necessary authority for the installation of the plant necessary for the production of the non-woven type of lining similar to the "Thermoid" which you are now using, but if we can succeed with the woven type, we would prefer to offer this type. We wish to thank you for having given us the opportunity of inspecting your testing machine, and for passing on to us the results of your prolonged experiments on the brake squeal problem, and with the benefit of this, we feel sure the solution of this problem will soon be effected. Yours faithfully, GANDY'S. (The G.B.M.Co. Ltd., ) per G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Hein. | ||
