YOUR REF.
DATE 11th. June 1937

Messrs. Rolls, Royce, Ltd.
DERBY.

For the attention of Mr. Leslie.
Experimental Dept.

Dear Sir,

With further reference to our telephone conversation this afternoon, we are enclosing herewith a supply of cork for making a new packing.

It has occurred to us, that this blow out may have been caused through having too much oil in the shock absorber. We are not supposed to fill the shock absorber more than 3/8" from the top of the lid{A. J. Lidsey}, otherwise at a high temperature, the pressure is much too high for the gasket.

You will notice on the new lid{A. J. Lidsey} drawing enclosed herewith, that we have taken the metal down inside the lid{A. J. Lidsey}, so that the shock absorber cannot be filled to more than 3/8" from the top.

We have reduced the filler plug diameter to 3/8" and we shall therefore have at least 9/16" of thread, which should be ample.

Yours faithfully,
p.p. ARMSTRONG'S PATENTS CO. LTD.

Y Bogg
