Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} r5840 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1Q/HSO.12.31. x5770 re. 18-G-4. 10,000 Miles Test. Further to report reference EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1Q/HSO.12.31. I do not consider I have shown sufficient enthusiasm on the merits of this car as compared with our present standard. One cannot over estimate the advantage of the increased performance, especially as this is achieved without any roughness or harsh running, in fact less than our present standard (non-diamond mounting). Again the easy gear change and quiet third gear are - very important improvements and will be much appreciated by the present customer, and a very valuable selling asset. The only disadvantage compared with our present standard is slightly noisy side shaft running light, but it is a noise which is not objectionable and accepted generally by customers, judging by other makes of cars. I certainly take the view that (subject to the chassis on inspection being found O.K.) we should bring this type of chassis into production as soon as possible. Every day lost will be a day less of increased sales. I am already in touch with two buyers who would, if I could only give trial run on this car, place orders at once, their contentions against the present chassis having been completely overcome.
