Messrs. Ferranti Ltd.,
Hollinwood,
Lancs.

Dear Sirs,

Ferranti Dashboard Ammeter.

We duly received your letter of the 1st. inst. There is no doubt that the needle was definitely sticking when the instrument was with us, this having been witnessed by several people, because we are very careful to confirm any fault which we have occasion to report to other firms.

We appreciate the fact about the damping, but this was not the explanation of the phenomenon. It will be agreed that it is quite a possible thing for an instrument to exhibit a fault of this nature and at one time and not at another. We feel that the fact that it has shown any signs of it indicates a possibility of a failure which possibly it is desirable to avoid.

If, upon further inspection of the instrument, you can see no reason at all for the motion sticking, we can only suggest that you again return the instrument to us and we will proceed with our tests as if the instrument had been sent to us in the first instance. If we do run up against the phenomenon a second time then we will advise you so that your Mr. Baggs may visit us to have this demonstrated to him, i.e. if the fault will be good enough to be there when he comes.

In order that you may know the actual specification of test through which we put this instrument, we are enclosing a copy of same.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED,
