Dear Sirs,

For the Attention of H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Royce Esq.

With reference to your letter of the 16th instant, on examining the Ammeter returned under Replacement Order No.6951, we find that the pointer is very badly bent, and the dial is cracked across both securing screws, apparently due to insufficient care being taken with the packing. We are returning the instrument as received for your inspection, and shall be glad if when sending same back you will kindly advise us whether a new dial is necessary.

Regarding the setting resistance this is certainly missing, but the two wires connecting same have solder on them. Further our test sheet shows clearly that the instrument was checked against a standard before despatch and test readings taken.

You will realize that if the wires were left disconnected there would have been no circuit through the instrument or if the wires were connected and the resistance omitted then the Ammeter would have read full scale deflection with very much less current, and in either case this would have been discovered when checking.

It is very difficult to say with an open instrument such as the one in question what has happened and in any case it would have been a very simple matter to fit another resistance, but the damage in transit will necessitate remounting and possibly a new dial. We shall therefore be glad to have your comments.

We are, dear Sirs,
Yours faithfully,
FOR ELLIOTT BROS.(LONDON) LTD.
