25/30 Gearbox.

We send herewith a print of N.Sch.5065 and prints of the necessary detail drawings RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}456/7/8 showing the use of piston ring type springs for the synchromesh mechanism, as suggested by E/Psn/Mr Haworth in place of the spring loaded plungers at present used.

The object of this scheme is to reduce cost.

It may be possible to still further reduce cost by the use of only one ring although it appears that one ring cannot easily be made to give the end load we at present have. Some idea can be gained whether a reduction of the end load may be made by trying this scheme with one spring only.
