1021 Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} BY.10/G.21.12.38. BODY DESIGNS. NOTES ON DISCUSSION IN CONNECTION WITH BODY DESIGNS FOR NEW EXPERIMENTAL CHASSIS. On Monday and Tuesday, the 19th and 20th inst. we discussed the points raised in BY.2/G.19.12.38. Blue-prints of all the body designs referred to in this memo have today been despatched to you in London. Taking the various points in detail :- (1). It was agreed that the Coupe design to PD.331, for 12-B.V. under heading (a) should be put in hand. Instructions are being issued to Park Ward & Co. to go ahead. (2). In regard to item (b), which represented a modified Paulin body, to PD.333, for 14-B.V., the modification consisting in applying a normal rear end construction to a car of the Embiricos type was discussed, and it was explained that we had slightly modified Mr. Paulin's original design and returned it for his views, at the same time asking him to come over to England after Christmas to settle outstanding points. (3). In regard to item (c), that is a body for 11.B.V. to PD.327, after some discussion it was decided that we should retain our standard height from floor to roof otherwise the body was considered satisfactory. (4). In regard to (d), PD.323, project design only, for a speed Bentley with 8 cylinder engine on a long chassis, after some discussion on Monday evening, and a further discussion on the same issue on Tuesday morning, it was agreed that the project was worth proceeding with, as it provided a test chassis for the 8 cylinder, and put forward a scheme which would enable us to compete with Lagonda advantageously. It was further agreed that it was desirable to arrange so that an 8 cylinder engine could be fitted into 11-B.V. again on a performance basis as soon as an 8 cylinder engine was available. We will draw up a programme for the speed type Bentley (14-B.V. - modified Paulin) so as to have a target to aim at. | ||
