C O P Y. R1/P.17.9.13. X45-7 To J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} With reference to the steering wobbles, I have received your note, which states that the works say, that it only partially cures them. I did not expect that this would cure the all/troubles arising from rough roads and out of balance, but, you will find with my suggestion of rendering the pivots practically upright, there will be no complaint of these low speed wobbles, which have been especially referred to as a phenomena of our cars. The effects of rough roads and out of balance wheels will always be more or less manifest, but I am convinced from my own tests that these are not what the owners complain of, but that they are complaints referring entirely to a period of wobbles, which take place at a comparatively low speed, which can be cured as indicated. The effect of potholes will according to their frequency manifest themselves on the steering wheel in our car as in others. We shall in our future designs tend to reduce the effect of these, by carrying the scheme we are already using to its fullest COPY. | ||
