The old Daimler was tried but it locked itself if a big load was applied at the pivot. The load was decreased at the steering wheel until it could be lifted. The results were unreliable even with a light load. The best we could do was :-

Inch lbs on steering column. 19
Steering right. 30 lbs.
Steering left. 86 lbs.
