| TRIPLEX SWITCH.—For certain special purposes when the maximum power and reliability are required, e.g., for racing and competition work, special “Triplex Double” sets are supplied, containing a “Triplex switch.” In the “Triplex Double” set two sparking plugs are used in each cylinder, and, by means of a special arrangement, the two sparks are electrically synchronised. Although two sets of contact - maker mechanism are provided, and both are running, only one is actually operating at any one time. The current is led through two separate coils to the “Triplex Switch,” from which it can be caused to operate a trembler, or pass to either contact maker, according to the position of the selector and system switches. Each coil is connected to its own high - tension distributor, and both high - tension distributors are in action all the time; being of the jump - spark type, they have no wearing parts. When a magneto replacement mounting is used, a special type is provided, having two igniters on the same mounting. These igniters are driven by the same spindle, and advance and retard together, so that the same timing is always obtained, no matter which contact mechanism be in use at the moment. When the high frequency spark is in use, both contact maker mechanisms are running idle, and the timing is controlled by the distributor blades. TYPES AVAILABLE SINGLE SPARK SET.—The single spark sets comprise igniter and coil. These sets can be supplied for either 6-volt or 12-volt, and an ordinary switch (not supplied with the set) is used. Sets are supplied with or without magneto replacement mounting, at corresponding prices. “DUPLEX” SET.—The “Duplex” sets comprise igniter, coil, and duplex switch. These sets can be supplied for either 6-volt or 12-volt. The igniters are similar to the single spark sets, and can be supplied with or without magneto replacement mounting. “TRIPLEX” SET.—The “Triplex” set consists of a complete double “Duplex” set, giving two sparks in each cylinder. These sets are made to order only, but can usually be supplied at short notice. To simplify the wiring, two duplex switches are not employed, but a single “Triplex switch” serves the same purpose. Special double igniters, with or without magneto replacement mounting, are supplied for these sets. “Triplex” sets are only supplied for 12 volts.
