For the attention of Mr Skinner.

Dear Mr Skinner,

A blueprint of your proposed modified float chamber has been passed to me for criticism. I certainly agree that this is an improvement on the last but there are still one or two points which I feel could be modified with advantage, as follows:-

(1) In your design the float is located sideways by the needle which will, I fear, result in side thrust and friction on the needle itself, and which may also tend to unseat the needle and cause fidgeting when the needle is closing down on to its seat. I would suggest that the hinge pin be carried right across the float chamber and inserted in a drilled hole on the far side, and that distance pieces could then be used on each side of the float hinge, thereby locating the float between the walls of the chamber, as in sketch.

If the float chamber is accessible from both sides we favour attaching the spindle to the float and using pointed ends to reduce the collar friction carried in two hollow screws.
