B.R. 493A (20H) (D.A. 652 20-9-24) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Expl. No. K4266 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LG11.9.24. 20 HP. PETROL TANK WITH RESERVE COMPARTMENT. It was found necessary on experimental tests to modify the baffle dividing the tank, otherwise most of the petrol when running on the reserve side was splashed over to the other compartment. We recommend that although there is a reserve amount of petrol left in the tank which-ever position the tap is in when it runs out, we should mark on the tap the position it should be normally set, otherwise, we get [strikethrough]run[/strikethrough] into difficulty with the level indicator. In our opinion the best arrangement is for the indicator to shew empty when the reserve tank is full. If the tap is turned in the other direction, it would mean that the level indicator may indicate 4 gallons, whereas there may be only approx. 2 gallons in the tank. It is proposed to mark the level indicator dial disregarding the reserve compartment, until the level is above the division in the tank. This means that between 3 and 4 gallons, there will be a definite step in the reading. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
