Radiator shutter friction and a proposed modification to the thermostat linkage.

Referring to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/MJ 8930., we have had the question of the linkage operation of the shutters in mind on previous occasions when shutter friction has been considered, but we have always assumed that there was enough slack to take care of any centre difference in the shutter levers. We consider the bearing slack could be increased, but if this is not enough then the link would have to be slotted to cover the variation in question. With regard to the thermostat itself we are sending you a slight modification in which the present sliding bearing is deleted together with the spherical link, and the bellows spindleis carried on the lever at one end, and by internal spherical guide at the other. This modification we think should overcome any tendency to cross bind, but it should be fitted up with sufficient slack initially in all the joints, and the bellows can be given increased travel to cover such slack.
