EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} c. WGR. X3438 X493 CHASSIS - FAN DRIVE. RE SPECIAL WHITTLE BELT PROPOSED BY L. ESSENHIGH, 20 GRAPPENHALL ROAD? LATCHFORD, WARRINGTON. ------------------------------------ The proposal referring to the above seems to me to be more likely to get us into difficulties than help us out of them. The rigidity of the belt, which seems to be one of the worst features in the American type, with grey fibre wearing surface, would be increased in this design, and so far as I can see at the moment, what we want is something in the direction of elasticity, that is to say, we should have a belt more or less like rubber, which could stretch a reasonable amount under certain conditions, and would therefore obviate the periods, which, even on certain Whittle belts, we seem to get.
