To PA.{Mr Paterson} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to Cdr.{W. J. Chandler - Chief Clerk} WORX BY HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL. X4225 RE "GOSHAWK II" CYLINDER HEAD. Referring to the question of the oil drainage of the top face of the cylinder head, the way through for the oil from the offside can be provided by shortening all of the cylinder stud bosses and cylinder studs which lie near the centre line of the valve gear rocker fulcrum until the said bosses are flush with the lower face of the casting. Mr. Royce approves of this method of treatment and does not object to having another length of cylinder stud. To make this matter quite clear we shew a plan view in the sketch below in which it will be seen that there should be no obstruction to the flow of oil across the head. FC AUG 28 1921 RECEIVED. THE CASTING WOULD BE SPOT FACED AT THESE POINTS FOR THE CYLINDER NUTS. Would you kindly instruct this modification. Incidentally it will be remembered that the nuts which hold on the cylinder head are not now to be castellated, and this modification should be put through at the same time.
