X7791 To Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. Sft.{Mr Swift} Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EFC2/T24.4.28. EW6 WATFORD MAGNETOS. With reference to the letter CHK-DEW.3. of the 19th inst., attached to your ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/JT17/HP23.4.28, the matter of fitting the new cam rings must be decided when we have been able to complete tests both here and in the Test Dept. on the four machines which we have recently received back from Messrs. North so fitted. In regard to Messrs. North's remarks about magneto No.100084, we do not doubt that this would pass the ordinary low speed sparking test, but what we query is whether it could pass the firing of the leaky gap at 250 r.p.m. in accordance with our specification. In the case of another machine which would pass the a former test, the speed at which it would just fire the leaky gap was 350 r.p.m. in place of 250 r.p.m. as required. Though Messrs. North say that it "has been tested in every possible way and found to be well within our specification" we cannot think that it passes our test No.5. of the latest version of the General Specification dated 27.3.28, because we have found that magnetos which will pass this test will also fire the engine cold. Perhaps therefore they will re-try this machine on that particular test. EFC. | ||
