Preliminary tests have been carried out on Silchrome valves with chrome plated stems running with .001-.0015 clearance in the valve guides.

This is only half the normal clearance as used with KE.965 valves and is certainly a step towards consistently quiet valves as it is possible with the present clearance in the guides to apply a sideways load on the valve and quieten its operation.
