| V7941. Hotel de France, Chateauroux(French test region), FRANCE. 2/9/31. To Es. From G.W.H. I have received your memo. Es.2/J.S.7.9.31. re. 25-LX. I do not understand your criticism re. 25-LX. I do not think you realise that we have not had the car for three weeks, with the exception of two working days taken up with modifications and necessary repairs. We cannot very well get impressions of the car whilst Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} has got it, and there was no time previous. The car will not be back until the 15th. but I will meet Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} in Paris and return to Derby with it. With regard to bonnet knocks, we received one scheme only for the radiator suspension. The rubbers were 1/16" small in dda. for the cups. an Experimental Sch.1517 was sent out minus two brackets, we therefore could not fit the scheme. We fitted up Scheme II, the only one sent of radiator mounting, using rubbers which we made, but not considered satisfactory from a wearing point of view. We also sent a report that the stud was not strong enough for the work it is called upon to do. I did not make any arrangement with J.V. It was R. {Sir Henry Royce} that criticised the scheme from the report he had received at 10,000 miles, and he told Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} to modify the scheme - i.e. to fit a tube on to the stud to make it in tension. We had no complaints from PM. Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Ex. D. {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} SP. {Mr Spinney} that the bonnet knocked and from our point of view we were satisfied that the arrangement would be satisfactory when the slight modifications were carried out.
