(5) Excessive width across A as shown on attached sketch causing contact on incorrect faces and damage to worm. (6) Wide variations of size B on sketch. So far as the functioning of the roller is concerned it is not necessary for the surfaces marked X X to be ground as these do not contact with the worm at any time.
