(2) ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. This was rather heavy, and coupled with the fact that the engine does not carry much oil in the crankchamber some-thing should be done to increase the reserve of oil so that the car can run nearly 1000 miles after refilling before any failure is likely to take place. As it stands at the moment it looks as though 400 miles is about the limit of safety with normal filling. Mr. Minchin was here on Sunday and called this same fact to my attention as his experience in a recent run to the Riviera and back on his high geared 20HP. He also mentioned tempory failur due to brake application or some such cause. The latter I said we had cured but the former suggests that for an immediate remedy our indicator should permit of a larger quantity of oil to be put into the crankchamber before it indicates 'full'. It is probable that a half gallon added after 'full' is indicated would do no harm whatever on even the slightest hills usually met with - (1 in 6.)
