The spherical Joint washers on Phantom III. exhaust manifold and front silencer give considerable trouble due to blowing, and it is necessary to obtain a perfect bedding on the metal Joint faces in order to ensure a gas-tight Joint. The total time allowance in the Erecting Bay and Test Department for the work is 15 hours, and is considered that this could be entirely eliminated by fitting "Corrojoint" washers on either side of the existing spherical washers. A number of Wraith and Phantom III chassis are already running satisfactorily with "Corrojoint" washers E.89049 on the exhaust downtake and a similar washer is used on present production 25/30 chassis between the Cylinder Head and exhaust manifold. Will you please therefore arrange for all Wraith experimental production chassis to be fitted with "Corrojoint" washers, also for them to be fitted on the manifold and front silencer Joints of the next 10,000 miles Phantom III. chassis with the object of early standardisation. In each case the Joint faces of the manifold, flange and spherical washer should have normal finish machined surfaces only and not be lapped or scraped. RHC {R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} /S.Bannister. | ||
