3 23 The general leaks about the engine are no worse than on some other Goshawks. I feel sure that this engine has been using too much oil from its birth as it is very unlikely that something should alter just when we commence to check the consumption. It appears to be necessary to dismantle the whole engine and to rebed the crank to stop the spray from the bearings but we have not the time or the facilities here to do this. What do you think? The engine runs well and does not mess up the plugs, but simply uses too much oil. The petrol consumption is very good being from 20 to 22 miles per gall[on]. I have not yet heard when C T requires the car to be in Paris but may hear from him at any moment. We are cleaning the engine down and adjusting the chassis generally so as to start off as well as we can. [A] point which is noticeable is that tyres wear out quicker in the dry weather. The rubber gets scrubbed off due to dry skidding and wheel slip. The wet roads seem to lubricate the tyres and prevent the rubber being | ||
