With reference to your telephone enquiry regarding failures of Phantom III hydraulic jacks and 25/30 HP. axles, we give you below what information we have available:- PHANTOM III HYDRAULIC JACKS. The total of 11 is made up as follows:- 7 jacks. 2 pumps. 1 pipe line. 1 broken jack bracket. The majority of the jacks affected are on AZ series cars and we believe that modifications have since been introduced to avoid failures. 25/30 HP. REAR AXLES. GXM-56. This was a complaint of noise on the over-run before final delivery in London. A propeller shaft damper was fitted but the axle was subsequently changed for one supplied by the Test Department. GAN-42. New car. New axle sent by Test Department to London. GRM-52. Very noisy over-run at 40 m.p.h. A propeller shaft damper was fitted and the axle gears were re-set. GXM-18. Over-run hum at 50/60 m.p.h. Re-set axle gears. GRM-75. Noisy over-run. A complete new axle was fitted and a new pinion was fitted to the axle removed. GUL-14. Noisy over-run at 25 m.p.h. The complete axle was changed and a propeller shaft damper fitted. -continued- | ||
