Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/MJ.8.8.34.

Thank you for your various notes.

With regard to the return of the Bentley, having sent you out axles, front springs, and radiators, we want to be sure we get complete tests on these parts before the car returns. In view of your axle failure you may be pressed for time. If you do not run the Phantom however you should be able to give the Bentley a good deal of attention. If, therefore, the tests are completed on the 28th. we should like Grylls to bring the car back as arranged, but if for any reason the car is delayed Grylls should return. It is possible that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} or myself will come over with the Cadillac and we could then return with the Bentley.

We do not expect Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} to dislocate the tests at Chateauroux and I do not think there will be any difficulty. I pointed out to him that if it is not convenient we should let him know and then he would have to try the car in England.

Since starting to write this, RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} has promised to send out the cross member for steadying the lamps on 28-EX. This will have to be pegged in position but we are making the job as simple as we can for you. We should certainly like you to give us a thorough opinion on this before the car returns. On 3-BLV I found that with the cross member fitted the wing on the driver's side did not go so badly as the wing on the inner side. I traced this down to the steering column steadying the frame on the driver's side. You will remember seeing the support from the dashboard to the frame which I had fitted and this seemed to complete the job. Considering this cross-member I hardly think that the car is likely to be finished with by the 28th.

With regard to the 20/25, we do want you to run with the silent tappets as much as you can. If you fit Bentley valve springs you should be perfectly alright for valve bounce and should be able to give us a good idea as to how the parts function.

Two replacements have been sent out for the rocker which
