FILES. 4238 28.2.35. Increased Capacity Oil Pump, LeC.4288. These pumps have been fitted to the following units :- B.4 fitted 28.1.35. B.5 Fitted 28.2.35. We have also had increased capacity helical gear pumps to drawings produced by RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}'s Dept. on the following units :- B.10 fitted 5.12.34. B.3 fitted 8.2.35. Oil pumps having the standard straight tooth gears increased in depth have been fitted to :- B.12 unit, fitted 9.10.34. C.14 unit, (10,000 miles 20/25), fitted 15.11.34. We have there not had a helical gear pump on any test unit for any great length of time, so that at present we cannot definitely say whether the pumps stand up satisfactorily to the end thrust. The pump on B-4 unit has probably done more running than any, having complete 19 1/4 hours total running, of which 50 mins. have been at speeds above 4,000 r.p.m. the pump so far has proved quite good and there is no appreciable wear. The results of W.Bell's tests show that the helical gear pumps are no noiser than stan dard pumps and give 36% increased flow. They do not give the desired 50% increase due to the restriction of the suction line. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/R.Matthews. | ||
