C O P Y. H.M.Hobson Ltd., 47-55 Acton Vale, London W.3. 13th. June 1928. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, RE.20 HP. HOBSON K-S TELEGAUGE. We are in receipt of your letter of the 11th. inst., and we understand that the proposal for the moment is to fit the gauge in the existing gauge hole in the tank, in a similar manner to that in which the writer's car is fitted up. We are accordingly enclosing print K-S.51-S, being a side elevation of the Sprengel type unit adapted to the existing gauge fitting. We would like to explain that to introduce our unit, the gauge hole in the tank has to be slightly eased out, and the unit itself is set in two directions, so as to avoid fouling the baffle when it is being introduced into the tank. We have a rough template of the position and pitch of the screw holes of the gauge fixing, taken from the writer's car, and this will suffice if there has been no alteration in the design since this chassis (G.C.K.72) was made. We believe that we supplied to yourselves one 20 HP. gauge against a special order earlier in the year. This was supplied with the unit and fixing intended to be nearer the centre of the tank, and was made up as shewn on print K-S.52-S enclosed. We conclude from your remarks, however, that this is not the way in which you wish to treat the matter at the present time, but that the fixing of the gauge is to be adapted to the existing gauge hole, and the overflow pipe to be brought back into your vent, or alternatively, bent downwards and forwards, so that the surplus is run overboard and not on to the painted surface of the tank. contd :- | ||
