BEARINGS.

We have to-day despatched the big end bear-
ings to you.

We are also sending you some spares and 3 spare white metal bearings to the standard specification, to enable you to get the car home if you run into any trouble.

The same day that I received your telegram, we ran an RR.56 big end bearing on the engine which we were finalising for 3.B.IV; two simultaneous failures proved too much for us, and we have stopped them going on with these bearings for the time being. Will Sr. please note that, in consequence, he will not get any more sets of bearings for fitting to customers cars.

We are putting a second hole in the pins on 3.B.IV. to see if this will improve matters. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what happens to 6.B.IV. when you get the new bearings fitted.

Attached is a letter from Dunlops. The object of the tyres which they are sending you is to overcome groans which develop with the existing type of silent tread tyres after two to three thousand miles of Continental running. You will note that one set of tyres has cuts in the edge, the object of this being to restore any non-skid properties lost due to filling in the outside of the pattern.

Will you please get a value for these tyres on 35-EX with regard to wear, groans, and non-skidding properties.

We note your arrangement for 3.B.IV., but this car will be delayed now for two or three days.

35-EX should be ready to go out to France at the end of next week.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}
