Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of the 4th inst. addressed to our London Office, our objections to your suggestion of altering the design of the cell lid{A. J. Lidsey} are that firstly if the vent is lowered at all, there will be considerable risk of siphoning due to the fact that if the cell is topped up a little too high the bottom part of the vent will be in the electrolyte. If, alternatively, we raised the collars around the terminal posts the lids would not be interchangeable with the earlier supplies, and as the tool would have to be altered, we could not supply replacements unless a new tool was made.

In any circumstances we very much doubt whether altering the level of the vent would make much difference to the corrosion at present experienced.

Yours faithfully,
PETO & RADFORD,
C.Pritchett
