Re: Phantom Headlamps.

Referring to former correspondence which terminated with BY/Mtn7/K5.7.28, sending us sample pair of brackets which we had asked for, we fitted these up on two cars to look at and we also took the opportunity of fitting up head-lamps on 29.CL. in a still different position so that we had a variety to choose from.

On 29.CL. the lamps when of the P.100. type, were 27" from centre to centre and the height measured from the level top of the frame (not the horn beneath the lamp) was 17 1/2".

We have decided that this is the position we should like to see the lamps standardised and as whatever we decide on for the higher radiator as on 29.CL. would not suit present radiator, and owing to difficulties in connection with stocks and production, we have come to the conclusion that we had better not try and introduce this altered position of headlamp until the G.2.B. series.

As headlamp brackets are not supplied with the chassis, it really means that when we give you an order for headlamp brackets to run concurrently with chassis from the G.2.B. series, the above is the position we shall want the lamps to come in.

We would take this opportunity of mentioning that the pair of sample straight brackets which you sent us, did not allow the standard lamps to be fitted because the bulb adjusting screw at the back fouled the radiator. This, you will recollect, also occurred on the former pair of brackets you sent us, to which we drew attention, and we therefore thought it wise to point this out, as the P.100. lamp is still bigger and it is, of course, essential to have adequate clearance at this point. In fact, sufficient to enable one's fingers for cleaning purposes, to get between the lamp and the radiator.

We should like to have confirmation that you agree that this settles this particular matter.

If you feel that R.{Sir Henry Royce} ought to be brought into the matter, we could arrange to send Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} photograph of this car when completed, shewing position of the lamps in relation to the radiator and wings.
