Re Modified Petrol Tank.

We send herewith a print of "N" scheme 540 shewing the slight modifications to the level indicator and reserve fuel device recently instructed, and also a print of "N" scheme 538 shewing the modified air vent for side filler.

On "N" shheme 540 is shewn a man hole for getting at the supporting tubes, and generally for getting inside the tank. We also shew a plug for inserting a level stick when found necessary. We have also indicated on this drawing the enlarged dial for the level indicator, capable of being marked in litres, gallons, or American gallons, and on Figs. 1, 2 and 3 are shewn Mr. Royce's alternative suggestions for positioningthe gauge. We suggest that the tank baffles should be slight modified in order to protect the indicator float.

We have also shewn a fibre washer between the two parts of the reserve fuel pipe, as it appeared desirable to be able to get at the valve seat occasionally . We concluded that on the LeC. it was intended to make this point by sweating. It appeared to us to be desirable to move the reserve fuel device back so as to clear the bodywork on the top in the case of bodies of maximum length ( indicated on drawing) which also enables us to clear the petrol tank
