X5500 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M22.6.26. INDIA CAST DASH. X.5500 X.5430 Herewith we send N.sch.2214 shewing a modification to the attachment of the steering column to the cast dash to improve the clearance for the foot which was complained of on the 40/50 cast dash we had down here. We have replaced the sphere by a plain bearing as in the case of the 40/50 and have revised the method of attaching to the dash. Since we feel sure that the cast dash as originally instructed will have the feature of catching the foot as badly as the 40/50 we think it would be advisable to scrap the first dash and replace it by one with this modification, before the car is run. As an alternative to this proposal we suggest that if castings are made an attachment should be arranged in the position shewn on N.sch.2214 by means of a plate on the lines of that given for the 40/50.
