increased, which tends to clamp out the oscillation, but we do not consider this a very desirable practice if it can be avoided, as the wear on the balls is increased.
A & N have been into the matter so exhaustively we can only suggest that we send them a new side steering tube of the H series, normal type. This has stiffer springs although the pressure on the balls is not materially greater.
We do not wish to make a practice of fitting these tubes to earlier cars till all the known remedies have been tried.
The spring in the new tubes cannot be fitted in earlier type tubes.
I have discussed this matter very fully with Mr Bellringer & Mr Day.
