To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X341 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}12/JH.22.10.36. Phantom III Servo T Lever. In view of the failure of the N.S. lever G.63903, on a customers' car which was due to a forging fault, we thought it advisable to determine what load a sound lever would stand since the question of stiffening it up had been raised. The lever started to yield when 2,250 lbs. were applied to the end hole and at 3,250 lbs. the 4 N.S. bolts failed in shear. Since 2,250 lbs. corresponds to a pedal load of 270 lbs. and since a pedal load of 82 lbs. causes the rear wheels to lock, the lever is adequately strong and unless thickening it would help production to make a sound job of it no alteration is necessary.
