To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from F.{Mr Friese} Copy to CJ. EH. EFC. ORIGINAL. RECEIVED X3531. RE 20 HP. RADIATOR SUSPENSION. We sent you with our memo E8/G8/4/19, drawing Lec.1074 shewing the above. You will notice that the radiator may be easily detached from the chassis by unscrewing the pivots with a special little spanner which would be provided, having a squared end. The pivot pins should be in rustless steel. The bushes are of leather, as indicated on the drawing, so as to do away with the necessity for providing any means of lubrication. The bushes and pins are shewn parallel, but if necessary to get a sufficiently tight fit, a slight taper may be introduced. The felt pad upon which the end of the pin presses is supposed to allow the radiator to expand .020" approximately sideways, due to its rise in temperature. The pivot brackets are asked for as nickel silver castings, but if these are found on test not to be strong enough, they should be made as steel stampings. The aluminium supporting bracket within the channel should be made as a die casting. The bracket fixed to the radiator itself is in nickel silver and has been specially designed with a view to not having any features so as to be easy to clean. As shewn on Lec.1074, the radiator has to be adjusted to a central position on the chassis by suitable manipulation of the pivot pins. If this is not found to be satisfactory, (Contd.) | ||
