TO E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} RG{Mr Rowledge} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} SECRET. R1/M8.2.24. Copy to - CJ. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. MAGNETO. FABRIC COUPLINGS. X9790 X9100 These seem OK. but I should like to point out - (1) That you should use a really strong and large fabric on the engine side of the dynamo be-cause there may be great stress spannering the ad-justable coupling. (2) The adjustable coupling might be made less expensively by - [Diagram of a coupling] 2 discs of sheet steel - 1 serra-ted right through the other smaller for cramping. Riveted together to form one piece. Friction of nut assumed to be sufficient for over-run. Check plate could be used for nut. This admits of parallel serrations. Another idea is to use cone fit and fric-tion of plain cone. The parallel job described above might be the cheapest and most satisfactory. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
