Oil Pump & Drive (Large Capacity) LOP.E.86843.Lec.4400.

The oil pump maintained even pressure throughout the mileage. No noise could be detected from the gears. The tappets were adequately supplied at speed but the pressure drops rather low when idling. The relief valves gave no trouble, and were free from the usual buzzing when starting up.

Water Pump.LOP.E.87052.Lec.4819/4545.

No trouble experienced, and no water leak from glands noticed. Gives a good flow across top of matrix.

Fan LOP.E.85311.

The fan has been quiet and no noise is audible from inside the car, although a distinct roar can be heard when the engine is revved up, listening from the roadside. The water temperatures have been on the high side, and boiling frequently occurred. We were unable to try the higher speed fan, which might have rectified this.

It has been noticed that unless the fan belt is kept fairly tight it readily flies out and fouls the crank handle support.

Inlet Pipes LOP.E.87918.Lec.4857/4919.

Considerable trouble was experienced when small particles of grit stuck between the drain ball valves and their seatings. This set up a loud roar from the float chamber vent, which is interconnected with the same drain pipe. The open end of the drain pipe was covered over with gauze and no further trouble was encountered.

Tappet Oil Filter.LOP.E.87812.Lec.4834.

We find this easy and simple to get at, and is far easier to clean than the previous felt filter fitted. It adequately does its job, and holds up any small particles that might cause tappet failure. The pressure loss caused by this type of filter seems to be considerably less than when the felt filter was employed.
