Messrs. Hubert H.P.Trist & Co.,
Top Dog Works,
Brislington,
BRISTOL, 4.

For the attention of B.E.Draper, Esq.

Dear Sirs,

We have received the two types of linings recently ordered and we notice with regret, that you have chamfered them heavily at both ends. We remember discussing chamfers with you, and that you expressed the opinion that they were beneficial in reducing squeaks, and we agreed to try them, but we thought that you would send the liners to our drawings and leave us to chamfer them. The point is that we use, on Bentley, one big piece and one little piece of lining per shoe, and by chamfering both ends you have removed 1" of useful lining in the middle of the shoe. When we order the next sets of linings will you please leave them unchamfered.

When a car becomes available we will try the linings we have.

As regards chamfers, we have tried them on our cars and have discarded them, as we find them detrimental; we prefer therefore to fit linings in the first instance unchamfered, and chamfer them (in your case only) if squeaks occur.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
