ROAD WHEEL SHELLS AND REMOVING NUTS. We are having a lot of trouble lately on Phantom III. with creaking road wheels. This is due to the very unsatisfactory fit of the tapers on the wheel shell, and the removing nut. The drawing of the wheel shell G.53296 shews the taper as 27½° + ¼° whereas the drawing of the removing nut G.54854 shews the mating taper to be 27½° ± 2° the latter having far too big a margin of error, consequently we are getting nuts bedding only on 30% to 50% of the taper. Road wheels are also coming through 2° out where a ± ¼° is given. These points urgently require the attention of Messrs Dunlops. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} | ||
